Scaled Professional Scrum
Scaled Professional Scrum (SPS)
Scaled Professional Scrum (SPS) allows participants to learn how to scale Scrum simply within the Nexus framework. I highly recommend that organizations consider taking this class as a group. Check out my Private Group SPS course listing, which is located here.
Nexus was collaboratively developed by Scrum.org and Ken Schwaber -- one of the co-creators of the Scrum framework. Learn to apply Nexus’s simple scaled approach. In SPS, we will discuss the difference between Product teams, technology silos, feature teams, and more.

Scaling in the context of Scrum means adding a framework to help teams manage dependencies and communications. If you have more than one Scrum team, and they need to talk to each other, that’s fine when you have two. But what happens with you have three? Or more? When three or more teams work together to deliver a Product, communications can get… messy.
More about SPS
Nexus scaling keeps the key elements of Scrum while adding a few extensions to help teams work together on the same product. This results in several key benefits:
-
Small changes, big impact: Nexus adds only what is necessary and builds upon the Scrum framework rather than changing it. Teams can adopt Nexus without losing the benefits of Scrum.
-
Scalable Transparency: Nexus provides transparency at scale with a single Product Backlog, Product Owner, and Definition of Done across all teams. This simplifies the product development process. Everyone works towards a common goal.
-
Empowering Teams: Teams self-organize and make decisions collaboratively. Empowered teams take ownership of how the product is delivered and work toward a common goal.

Scaling means putting in place a structure to coordinate across Scrum teams. If you have three or more Scrum teams working together on a single Product, Nexus can help your team manage dependencies and communicate better.
Nexus is the simplest scaling framework available, and that’s what makes it great. Nexus scales Scrum without adding a lot of overhead and complexity. Nexus preserves and enhances the simplicity that makes Scrum great.
Scrum's success can be attributed to its simplicity. This simplicity is built upon transparency, inspection, and adaptation—the underpinnings of Empiricism.
